(ANSA) – BELGRADO, 15 SET – A working breakfast of the ambassadors of the member countries of the ‘Friends of the Western Balkans’ group was held today at the Italian Embassy in Belgrade, with the participation of the Minister for European Integration of the Republic of Serbia Nemanja Starović.
The meeting provided an opportunity for an in-depth exchange on the prospects for Serbia’s path to membership in the European Union, as well as the contribution that the countries in the group can make to accompany and encourage the reform process. The discussion, which took place in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, focused on the possible opening of Cluster 3, which Belgrade would like to see happen by the end of the year.
In this regard, also in the wake of Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic’s recent visit to Brussels, reassurances were given on the Serbian side that the expected reforms in the areas of elections and media pluralism would be sent to fruition in the coming weeks.
“The Group of Friends of the Western Balkans has become, at the impetus of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani, an important tool to promote the European candidacy of the countries in the region,” said Italian Ambassador to Serbia Luca Gori. “Italy,” he added, “remains in favor of opening Cluster 3 with Serbia.
