It’s Mothers’ Day 2025. This year’s “mom” is a mother figure, fulfilling the roles of a mom. This year that mother figure is James Tynion (writer), Werther Dell’Edera (artist), Miquel Muerto‘s (colours) Erica Slaughter from their series Something Is Killing The Children (for details read here).
The children Erica meets and invariably bonds with are survivors of monster attacks. Many are alone, disbelieved, and neglected. She doesn’t necessarily love the children, but she does give them the support and comfort their families fail to provide.
Erica Slaughter, in her missions, takes on the mothers’ tasks of providing comfort and protection for children. She’s outwardly tough, and physically strong, but is capable of tenderness and affection. And, she puts herself between predators and children, coming close to dying to save their lives.
