(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 23 – The Green-Left Alliance (AVS) on Friday said it was “unacceptable” that veteran conservative journalist and anti-politically correct gadfly Vittorio Feltri had answered “my house, if they’re hot” when asked where domestic abuse sufferers and possible femicide victims might go if they found churches and pharmacies closed after their stalkers’ electronic tags went off, as suggested controversially by Italy’s justice minister amid police understaffing.
Feltri, 81, former editor of conservative dailies Il Giornale and Libero, was asked on Rai state TV where women fearing attacks might go in the event of finding churches and pharmacies closed when they were alerted to possible attacks by their exes or partners from their electronic tags, locations Justice Minister Carlo Nordio suggeste because hard-pressed and understaffed police forces would not be able to get to them in time.
“My house, if they’re hot”, he replied to Piero Chiambretti, host of the show Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown on Rai3.
AVS said they would file a complaint to the Rai parliamentary watchdog over the remark by Feltri, who is known for his waspish, reactionary and anti-woke comments.
Feltri’s quip was widely condemned by femicide and women’s groups, as well as other liberal parties, among others.
Chiambretti, the host, apologised and pointed out that many of his guests were progressive women.
Centre-left Democratic Party (PD) members called for an intervention by the AGCOM media watchdog. (ANSA).
