(ANSA) – ROME, MAR 12 – An inmate died in a Perugia jail after torching his cell Wednesday.
He was said to be a foreigner.
Prison officers’ union SAPP said “the warders’ timely intervention could not prevent the tragic event”.
SAPP and other unions recently raised an alarm about a wave of suicides in Italian prisons due to overcrowding and poor conditions.
