(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 21 – President Sergio Mattarella stressed the need for the EU to deliver effective policies that improve citizens’ lives as he addressed the College of European Commissioners during a visit to the EU institutions in Brussels on Wednesday.
“Like many others, I am convinced that the more the EU institutions prove to be transparent and efficient, effective in providing rapid, rational responses to the needs and well-founded concerns of citizens, the more their indispensable social consensus is strengthened,” Mattarella said.
The head of State got a warn reception for European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
“Welcome, dear President,” she said.
“You are the president of one of the founding countries of our Union. Today we welcome you here not only as a statesman, but also as a European at heart”.
