The lightweight champion from Team Nurmagomedov Amru Magomedov (8-0) and Astra Fight Teams’s challenger Alex da Silva (24-5) engaged in a back-and forth exchange ahead of their title fight on Saturday which centered around their nation’s MMA prowess.
Whilst Da Silva claimed that Brazil had the most champions in the sport, the title-holder countered with the claim that his team were the best in the world and were quickly overtaking the global achievements of Brazilian fighters.
With four Russia vs Brazil matchups on the card, the atmosphere in the press conference reached fever-pitch as several other camps began to cheer each fighter’s response.
Even though their face-off was respectful, it was obvious to the gathered media and fans present, that neither athlete will back down when the bell goes in the ADNEC Arena in Al Ain on Saturday night live on UFC Fight Pass.
After being welcomed to the ancient Oasis city by the MD and CEO of Palms Sports, Mr Fouad Darwish, all 28 fighters were present for their face-offs with several having to be separated by security, but the event finished without any major incidents.
Palestine’s Rany Saadeh (14-4) and Japan’s Hikaru Yoshino (13-5) who occupy the co-main event slot were respectful, but several of the other barn-burners on the card made their intentions more than clear.
The card is one of the deepest in the promotion’s tenure and is topped by one of the region’s most-anticipated title fights in recent history.
