Railway Art: The Final 4

Yesterday was the 200th aniversary of the openning of the world’s first public railway, when George Stevenson’s Locomotion No 1 travelled from Shilden to Stockport. The Darlington and Stockton railway was designed to carry coal from minefields to port in Stockton, and then on to London.

One of the things about the celebrations I most enjoyed was the collection of artworks gathered together to celebrate Britain’s long relationship with the railways, You looked at 20 pictures, and from that we have 4 winners from the groups. I mught say that we have already ejected the winner selected by the Art UK experts.

Vote now from these four group winners, so that we can select the History of England favourite!

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post’s poll.

Service by Night, David Shepherd
By Rail to Wales, Frank Wootton
Rain, Steam, and Speed, Joseph Turner

The Crimson Rambler, Philip D. Hawkins
