(ANSA) – ROME, MAR 4 – The Aurora vessel operated by the charity Sea Watch on Tuesday departed from Lampedusa and travelled to the BP oil rig Miskar off Tunisia to rescue a group of migrants who had been stranded there for four days, sources within the migrant-rescue NGO said on Tuesday.
A reconnaissance plane operated by Sea Watch first sighted the group on the oil platform on Saturday, with an empty rubber dinghy floating nearby, the organization said.
The 32 people, including women and children, had departed from Libya, according to the same sources.
They are in need of help, nobody else is rescuing them and the platform is unfit to take care of them, said the NGO.
One of the dinghy’s passengers has allegedly died, according to the NGO Mediterranea saving Humans and Sea Watch. (ANSA).
