(ANSA) – ROME, MAR 7 – Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said the supreme Court of Cassation’s ruling that the government must compensate migrants for keeping them aboard a coastguard ship in 2018 was something that could be commented on and that he did not agree with it, like other government members.
“Judicial sentences are respected but can be commented on, with deep respect we will execute this sentence of the Supreme Court but I do not agree with it at all, precisely because I know that case in depth”, he said on the case of the Eritrean migrants kept aboard the Diciotti ship due to then interior minister Matteo Salvini’s controversial closed ports policy.
“Sentences, even the authoritative ones of the Supreme Court, are respected but can be commented on, can be judged in some way and cannot be agreed with on my part”. (ANSA).
