Trump talk ‘hurts’ says CEI

(ANSA) – ROME, JAN 22 – The way Donald Trump talked about people in his inaugural address and welter of executive orders “hurts”, the number two of the Italian Bishops’ Conference (CEI) said Wednesday.
“We are interested in human dignity, the protection of life that is measured in terms of welcome and accompaniment,” said the secretary general of the CEI, Msgr. Giuseppe Baturi, in apparent reference to the US president’s anti-immigrant rhetoric and plans to deport 11 million illegal immigrants, as well as the cancellation of birthright citizenship, among other things.
“Policies, or even words, that could be a damage to human dignity will meet with our dissent,” said Baturi.
“Talking about people in this way, wherever it comes from, hurts”.
The Episcopal bishop of Washington, Mariann Budde, on Tuesday urged Trump to “have mercy” on migrants and LGBTQ people amid his anti-immigrant and anti-gender moves, spurring a frosty response from the billionaire property developer and reality TV star turned politician. (ANSA).
