Next week (June 26th), talented singer-songwriter Rainey Qualley (who goes under the moniker Rainsford) will be releasing her debut album, Before Blue. Released on August 7th, the third and final single, “Salt” paves the way for the hugely anticipated LP.
“I wrote ‘Salt’ on guitar, alone in my living room a few years back,” says about this deeply introspective piece.
“Most of my songs start as a collaboration with a producer but I was so sad, and it was such a personal song. I tried finishing the track with two different producers, and the versions we created were beautiful in their own way, but they didn’t quite encapsulate the feeling the way I wanted. So I tried for a 3rd time with Doug Schadt. Rather than keeping the song simple and raw, he leaned into the production. We added all the layered vocal harmonies, and wrote a bridge together, that breathed life into the song in a way I wasn’t able to do alone. Listening back now, I’m so sad for the person I was at the time, and the way I allowed myself to be treated. And I’m incredibly proud of this song that came from where I was at the time, and thankful for the opportunity for growth.”
This song is quite moving, thanks to Rainsford’s soulful vocals and dreamy production. Listen and set a reminder for the upcoming album’s June 26 release date. For more updates, follow “Salt” on Instagram.
