Winter Storm Fern Pummels U.S. With Snow, Ice, and Dangerously Cold Temps

Much of the U.S. is under a severe winter weather warning through the weekend.

The massive winter storm, being called “Fern”, is bringing heavy snow and ice along with sub-zero temperatures that are expected to cause widespread power outages.

AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Jonathan Porter said, “Potentially hundreds of thousands of people may go without electricity and heat for days.”

It could take a week or longer for power to return due to extended cold weather and road conditions.

The gusty winds are also bringing dangerous wind chills as low as 60 below which will cause frostbite and hypothermia in a matter of minutes.
