(ANSA) – ROME, JAN 17 – Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Friday he hoped Italians in Germany don’t vote for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), “also because that party does not have any liking for Italy”.
“I hope no Italian votes for AfD in Germany. Also because they have no sympathy for Italy”, said Tajani, who is also deputy premier, on the sidelines of a European People’s Party (EPP) meeting in Berlin.
When asked by journalists about possible alliances with the German far-right in Germany and about collaborations between the EPP and far-right parties in Europe, Tajani repeatedly insisted: “I have nothing to do with AfD and I don’t want to have anything to do with it”, “I am light years away from their ideology”.
