(ANSA) – ROMA, 05 FEB – The Italian Ambassador to Sofia, Giuseppina Zarra, met the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Bulgaria, Grozdan Karadzhov. The Embassy announced this in a note.
During the meeting, the opportunity of the development of bilateral cooperation in the connectivity sector in Bulgaria was examined, with particular reference to the progress of the works for the completion of the European Corridor VIII, a strategic project to ensure connectivity on the Black Sea-Adriatic route between Italy, Albania, the Republic of North Macedonia and Bulgaria. The meeting was also attended by the President of Confindustria Bulgaria, Roberto Santorelli, and the President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria, Alessandro Geretto.
The meeting also provided the opportunity for a fruitful exchange of views on various strategic issues for the infrastructural and economic development of Bulgaria and the Balkan region, such as the expansion and securing of the railway network and the creation of new intermodal hubs to make logistics between Bulgaria and European markets more efficient and sustainable. Finally, Ambassador Zarra and Minister Karadzhov explored the possibilities of strengthening bilateral cooperation and the opportunities that are opening up for Italian investors and companies interested in expanding their activities in a country crucial for the transit of goods to the large markets of Central Europe, in the east-west and north-south directions.
