Meloni hails ‘record’ revenue from war on tax evasion

(ANSA) – ROME, FEB 18 – Premier Giorgia Meloni on Tuesday hailed “record” revenues gathered from the war on tax evasion last year, saying the figures proved that claims her government is soft on tax dodgers are false. “Good news on the government’s work in combating tax evasion,” Meloni said via social media.
“(Economy) Minister (Giancarlo) Giorgetti and Deputy Minister (Maurizio) Leo have presented the data, which show that the sum recovered in 2024 reached the record figure of 33.4 billion euros, 8.32 billion more than in 2022, when the government had not yet taken office “They accuse us of helping tax evaders, of loosening tax loopholes, even of hiding imaginary amnesties.
“It is all lies.
“Our vision is clear: there is no room for those who want to be cleat, but those who are honest and perhaps find themselves in difficulty deserve to be put in a position to be able to pay what they owe.
“They deserve to be helped by the State. Families and businesses have understood this, well as demonstrated by the trend for voluntary payments, which have increased by around 70 billion in just two years”. (ANSA).
