Brazil, Ambassador Cortese inaugurates Wine South America

It will be the Ambassador of Italy in Brazil, Alessandro Cortese, to inaugurate tomorrow, Tuesday 6 May, the 5th edition of Wine South America, scheduled until 8 May at the Fundaparque of Bento Gonçalves, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The event, organised by VeronaFiere through its subsidiary Milanez & Milaneze, will see Italy as the leading country with a Pavilion coordinated by ICE – Agency for the Promotion Abroad and Internationalisation of Italian Companies, directed in Brazil by Milena Del Grosso. 47 Italian wineries from all the country’s main wine regions will be present, with over 250 wines for tasting.
The inaugural ceremony will also be attended by the Consul General of Italy in Porto Alegre, Valerio Caruso, the Councillor for Culture of the Veneto Region, Cristiano Corazzari, and the Councillor for Agri-food Resources of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Stefano Zannier.
The Ambassador stressed the link between Brazilian and Italian wines. “The Italian and Brazilian economies, particularly the gaucha one, are strongly linked to the agricultural sector and, consequently, to wine. Enhancing Wine South America means valorising all the efforts that companies in the sector make to offer a product of global recognition,’ Cortese said.
The fair is preceded today by the event ‘Meeting Bacchus’, promoted by the Consulate General of Italy in Porto Alegre at the Marco Luigi Events Centre. The initiative will officially kick off Wine Week in the Serra Gaúcha. “Despite everything they have experienced, the municipality and the region have been rebuilt and are full of energy to host one of the most important initiatives in the country’s wine sector,” Caruso stressed, recalling the serious floods that hit the area a year ago.
