(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 21 – Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said “threats against diplomats are unacceptable” after the Israel Defence Forces (Israeli army) fired shots into the air during a visit by representatives of many countries to Jenin in the West Bank, Italian foreign ministry sources said on Wednesday.
Tajani spoke to an Italian deputy consul who took part in the visit, the sources said.
The diplomat was not injured and returned to the consulate.
Tajani has told officials to demand an immediate explanation from Israel and to protest about the incident, the sources said.
The IDF has apologized for the Jenin incident. (ANSA).
