Veteran comedian and actor, Ali Asgar, is best known for tickling the funny bones of the audience with his iconic female characters, ‘Daadi’ and ‘Pushpa Nani’, in Comedy Nights with Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show. Viewers loved seeing his on-stage banter with the host, Kapil Sharma, and the rest of the show’s cast. However, despite the massive success, Ali quit the show, and the reason behind this was the toll his on-screen choices took on his family, especially his children.
Ali Asgar recalls his children getting bullied in school for his cross-dressing roles
In a recent conversation with The Lallantop, Ali Asgar candidly spoke up about his acting journey, opening up about his female characters, which made millions laugh at his over-the-top roles. However, while the nation was laughing, there was a different picture at home. Ali’s kids were silently battling ridicule and bullying at school. One day, his son’s question made him rethink his career. He recalled:
“During the Comedy Circus phase, when I was doing cross-dressing performances, my kids got bullied in school. That’s when I decided to take a break, and I was at home for 9 months, as I kept refusing the female characters. We used to shoot four acts, and they used to air on Saturdays, Sundays and weekdays. They were in primary classes, and other children would make fun of them. Tab mere bete ne mujhe kaha tha ke aapko kuch aur aata nahi hai kya… It was quite shocking for me.”
