Italian Embassy in Caracas celebrates Republic Day

(ANSA) – CARACAS, 03 GIU – To mark the anniversary of the Italian Republic, the Italian Embassy in Caracas organised a special concert in collaboration with the prestigious Venezuelan institution ‘El Sistema’, followed, as is tradition, by a reception with members of the Italian community and local dignitaries.
Ambassador Giovanni Umberto De Vito highlighted the work that the embassy, together with the Italian Cultural Institute, the consular offices and the other actors of the ‘Sistema Italia’, carries out every day to assist Italian citizens and promote Italy in the Venezuelan context. Mr. De Vito also recalled the action of Italian diplomacy – often carried out discreetly and far from the spotlights of public communication – aimed at building bridges and re-establishing trust. The ambassador emphasised, in particular, the strong attention that Italian institutions devote to young people and the new generations, called upon to face complex challenges in a world in transition in need of understanding and peaceful coexistence, and the many opportunities made available in this regard by the Italian government.
The head of mission emphasised the message that the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, addressed to Italians abroad, recalling “the values of freedom and democracy that inspire our Constitution and Italy’s commitment to peace” in various theatres of crisis. “Values,” De Vito reiterated, “that cannot be taken for granted and that we must consciously defend, especially at this time of persistent international tensions”.
Held on Monday 2 June at the Residenza d’Italia, the celebration featured a performance by the Simon Bolivar National Choir of ‘El Sistema’, led by maestro Lourdes Sánchez, who performed some of the most representative pieces of Italian opera. The event was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of civil society, business and local culture, as well as numerous representatives of the Italian community.
