(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 11 – A government bill containing provisions on the space economy was approved with 76 yeas and 57 nays in the Senate on Wednesday with the opposition claiming, despite government denials, that it was aimed at benefitting Elon Musk..
The opposition was very critical and continued to talk about “a gift to Elon Musk’s Starlink”, which the government has been rumoured to be in talks with using for its fast strategic Internet services, allegedly endangering national security.
The majority, however, defended the text, speaking of “necessary harmonization with international regulations” for a market “increasingly important and increasingly open to private initiative”.
Even if the government rapporteur Adriano Paroli (Forza Italia) spoke of a “text that can be improved”. (ANSA).
