Plaque at the embassy in Vienna in memory of Antonio Salieri

(ANSA) – ROMA, 27 AGO – Italy’s ambassador to Vienna, Giovanni Pugliese affixed a commemorative plaque outside the Metternich Palace, home of the Italian embassy in Austria, in memory of composer Antonio Salieri, on the occasion of the bicentenary of the Leghorn artist’s death. An author of both sacred and operatic music, Salieri spent most of his life at the Habsburg imperial court in Vienna for which he was composer and chapel master and had many famous musicians as pupils, including Beethoven, Schubert, Liszt, Czerny and Hummel. He died in Vienna in May 1825.
