At least fans finally know when they can get their Penn State football spring football experience in Beaver Stadium.
Will it look like a traditional Blue-White Game?
That part’s still uncertain. Penn State will host a “Blue-White Weekend” on April 25, it announced on a Monday social media post, though no information was provided yet regarding event time or format.
The intrasquad scrimmage typically ends Penn State’s NCAA-allowed 15 formal workouts.
Campbell made sure to note, during a news conference two weeks ago, the importance of playing some type of spring game for a roster that’s integrating 40 transfers, two dozen who followed him from Iowa State.
He doesn’t want, for example, new starting quarterback Rocco Becht’s first Beaver Stadium passes in front of fans waiting until the season’s Sept. 5 opener against Marshall.
The date and details of the Blue-White Game have always been announced by mid-December, at the latest. Timing, however, has been in flux as the program transitions to Campbell and his new staff.
Planning the event also may continue to be complicated by the ongoing renovations to Beaver Stadium, which began in December of 2024, and aren’t scheduled to be completed for another 18 months. Construction work has affected the surrounding parking lots and grounds, as well.
Events surrounding the game usually include a block party, player autograph session and a stadium 5K run to benefit Special Olympics.
The Blue-White Game began in the early 1950s under head coach Rip Engle and grew into one of the largest-attended spring games in the nation, sometimes attracting more than 70,000 fans.
