Former Florida football interim coach and longtime receivers coach Billy Gonzales has found a new home.
Gonzales was named a wide receiver analyst at Texas, the school announced on Monday., Feb. 23.
The 54-year-old Gonzales took over as interim coach for the Florida Gators when Billy Napier was fired on Oct. 19, 2025, and went 1-4, with the lone win coming against rival Florida State (40-21) in UF’s regular season finale.
Gonzales served in three different stints as UF’s receivers coach ― first from 2005-09 under Urban Meyer, then from 2018-21 under Dan Mullen and finally from 2023-25 under Napier. He helped develop several Florida receivers who went on to the NFL, including Percy Harvin, Kadarius Toney and Ricky Pearsall.
Despite Gonzales’s experience and ties to UF, new Florida coach Jon Sumrall chose not to retain him on his staff. Instead, Sumrall hired two new wideout coaches, naming Auburn receivers coach Marcus Davis outside receivers coach and former Georgia Tech receivers coach Trent McKnight inside receivers coach and passing game coordinator.
Gonzales joins Texas running backs coach Jabbar Juluke as the second former UF assistant named to the Texas football coaching staff. Juluke coached running backs at UF from 2022-25.
Florida plays at Texas on Oct. 17. The Gators upset the Longhorns 29-21 at The Swamp on Oct. 4, 2025.
