Mike Viti has been synonymous with Army football for over 20 years, and now he’s taking his coaching talents to the University of Miami.
ESPN and the Miami Herald are reporting on Tuesday that Viti is expected to become the tight ends coach for the Hurricanes, replacing Ole Miss-bound Cody Woodiel.
Army is set to begin spring practice drills on Friday, March 6.
Viti has been a valued asset on the Army coaching staff of Jeff Monken for all but two seasons. Viti served as fullbacks coach from 2016-21 and the past four seasons as offensive line coach, promoted to associate head coach following the 2024 season.
For decades, Army has relied on its offensive line to properly conduct its triple option offense, which has morphed into an attack that includes a passing game. In 2024, Viti coached an offensive line that won the Joe Moore Award as the nation’s most outstanding offensive line unit.
Last season with a revamped offensive line under Viti’s tutelage, Army led the nation in time of possession and fewest penalties per game and ranked fourth in rushing offense (254.9 yards per game) and 13th in fourth-down conversions (69.6%).
Viti was a standout fullback for the Black Knights from 2004-07, graduating from West Point in 2008. He earned four varsity letters and served as a Regimental Commander during his senior year. Following school, Viti was a platoon leader serving in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom, earning a Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge.
