Hybe and Geffen Records announce their second global girl group, Saint Satine, after the finale of music survival show “World Scout: The Final Piece.”

It’s official: Hybe and Geffen Records have unveiled their second global girl group following the worldwide success of Katseye. Saint Satine is a four-piece group that was mainly known as Prelude until now, after their fourth member won in the finale of Japanese music survival show “World Scout: The Final Piece.”

The group is the second multinational group formed under the Hybe and Geffen Records partnership, which was formed in 2021 around the shared goal of creating acts that “transcend national, cultural, and artistic boundaries.”

Three of Saint Satine’s members—Emily (20, U.S.), Lexie (21, Sweden), and Samara (20, Brazil)—were first introduced to audiences through the reality competition show “The Debut: Dream Academy.” The show’s previous season documented the creation of Hybe and Geffen’s first global group, which drew over 120,000 applicants worldwide and resulted in the creation of Katseye.

Saint Satine’s fourth and final member, Sakura (16), was selected from over 14,000 Japanese applicants who vied for the final spot through “World Scout: The Final Piece,” which aired exclusively on Japanese streaming service Abema from February 24 to May 12.

While Emily, Samara, and Lexie were previously confirmed as part of the new global group, the fourth spot was left open for a Japanese member to be determined via the survival show. The finale was held live in Los Angeles on Tuesday (May 12), and saw Sakura compete against fellow finalist Ayana.

Previously known as Prelude, Saint Satine was officially announced as the group’s name alongside the finale reveal—which got a mixed reaction from fans on social media. Many had assumed the group would debut under its original working title.

More have voiced concern about the young age of the group’s newest member: a 16-year-old among a group of 20- and 21-year-olds. However, others have noted that Katseye’s Yoonchae was also 16 when the group debuted, and was even younger when she competed on “Dream Academy” for the position.

Saint Satine performed their debut single, “Party b4 the Party” live during the finale broadcast, with all four members on stage together for their first performance as a group. The track, as well as a second song called “We Ride,” was released across streaming platforms on May 12 after the finale’s airing.
