New world best time at world’s biggest long distance triathlon Challenge Roth (GER)

Sunday, July 5^th, the world’s biggest long-distance triathlon – the DATEV Challenge Roth 2026 – took place in Roth, Bavaria. Over 3.500 individual athletes and 700 relays lined up at the start to take on the classic triathlon long-distance format: 3.8 km of swimming, 180 km of cycling, and a 42.2 km marathon run through the Roth district. More than hundred thousand enthusiastic spectators lined the course, creating an electric atmosphere and cheering the athletes on. Wetsuits were banned due to high water temperatures, making it significantly harder to post fast swim times.

In the men race, last years Challenge Roth winner Sam Laidlow (FRA) was writing history and defending his title with a new world best time of 07:21:04 h. The 2023 Ironman World Champion is now also the new course record holder in Roth. Olympic Champion and 2021 Ironman World Champion Kristian Blummenfelt (NOR) took home the second place. For Germanys Rico Bogen, 2023 Ironman 70.3 World Champion, was it a perfect long distance triathlon debut on home soil with his third place.

In the women race, last year’s third placed Alanis Siffert from Switzerland taking home the win. Early on the bike she was going in the lead and from there on she was dominating the race. In the end she finished after 8:09:09 hours, with a new massive personal best – more than 20min faster than before. In second, 2019 Challenge Roth winner and 2023 Ironman World Champion Lucy Charles-Barclay (GBR) and in third Daisy Davies from Great Britain is completing the podium.
