In a surprise result that many did not expect, Brazilian Rogerio Bontorin defeated British champion Muhammad Mokaev, who had never suffered a loss in his UFC career.
The event also witnessed an impressive victory by American Bellator star Patchy Mix, who triumphed over Kazakhstan’s Kuat Akhmetov, thrilling the audience and intensifying the competition.
H.E. Abdul Moneim Al Hashemi praised the immense support provided by the UAE’s wise leadership for this sport, guided by H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and the continuous follow-up of H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Executive Council.
Al Hashemi emphasized that this unlimited support has cemented Abu Dhabi’s status as a global capital for combat sports.
Al Hashemi stated: “We are proud of the successes achieved by the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship since its inception, particularly in attracting elite global stars in mixed martial arts, jiu-jitsu, and grappling, from various combat organizations. This underscores Abu Dhabi’s role as a global hub for these sports and their athletes.”
Regarding the recent speculation about the withdrawal of two UFC fighters from the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship and their replacements just days before the event, Al Hashemi clarified: “We value our partnership with global organizations such as the UFC and appreciate their efforts in supporting combat sports. It’s important to note that over the past six editions, 13 UFC fighters have participated, with one fighter taking part in this specific edition. This clearly demonstrates that there is no tension or challenges between us and the UFC. Sometimes unexpected circumstances arise, related to the athletes’ competitive commitments or schedules, which is what happened in this case. We have a mutual understanding and appreciation for UFC’s decisions regarding their athletes, and we are committed to working with various organizations to enhance the experience for both fans and athletes alike, ensuring the best sports experience without affecting the athletes’ future.”
Mohamed Al Hosani, a member of the organizing committee and official match organizer, expressed his satisfaction with the exceptional technical level showcased by the championship and its athletes in its sixth edition.
He emphasized that the organizing committee is keen to provide full support to the athletes and reinforce Abu Dhabi’s leading position in hosting sports championships.
He also pointed out that the absence of Emirati athletes in this edition was due to their participation with the national jiu-jitsu team at the World Championship in Greece, but the upcoming editions will see the participation of promising Emirati talents.
