Zarine Khan, the wife of veteran actor Sanjay Khan and mother of Zayed Khan and Hrithik Roshan’s ex-wife, Sussanne Khan, has died. She passed away on November 7, 2025, at the age of 81, at her residence in Mumbai, due to age-related health issues and a cardiac arrest. Her funeral was held on the same day and was attended by several Bollywood personalities, including Hrithik Roshan, Jackie Shroff, and Bobby Deol. Zarine’s son, Zayed, performed her last rites as per Hindu traditions, even though she was married to a Muslim. Notably, Zayed also followed Hindu customs during his own wedding. Read to know why.
Why did Zarine Khan want a Hindu funeral?
Before her death, Zarine Khan had expressed desires for a Hindu funeral. The reason for her wish was that she was born a Hindu (her maiden surname was Katrak) and she maintained her faith throughout her life. Zarine’s family, including her son, Zayed Khan, who performed her last rites, honoured her last wish, and she was cremated, according to Hindu customs. She did not convert to Islam after marrying Sanjay Khan, and her household remained interfaith. This was the primary reason her last rites were performed as per Hindu traditions rather than her husband’s Muslim faith.
