Best Medicine – Hello Darkness, My Port Wenn – Review : The New Resident Gardener

This episode felt completely different to the previous four episodes, the last couple of episodes have been very happy and jubilant. Not that this episode wasn’t but it definitely felt like there was a more serious undertone to the whole episode.
We also got to see a lot of development from Martin which was nice to see. Even just him revising what he had said to Peter and then spending time with him was a really nice growth moment for Martin because in previous episodes he would never have understood what was wrong with his statement.
I really liked the main storyline with Joe and Martin. Martin started to see things from the town’s perspective and made sure to actually fully try with Joe, even if it did mean getting stuck in and planting some flowers with him. All Joe really wanted was a true friend not someone that just wanted him to fix the electricity and I think he may have found a good camaraderie with the Doc.
I loved Mark and Louisa this whole episode. Their singing was so good, but I think it was great that we got to see them finally hash out their unresolved situation afterwards. It is rare that you get to see development from something that happened prior to the show starting.
It was interesting to see Martin watching Mark and Louisa when they were singing, you could clearly see the tinge of jealousy in his face as he was watching on. He didn’t even see when Mark walked away so it will be intriguing to see if he believes in the next episode that they are back together.
This was a really great episode and even though it was slightly different that the previous episodes I think it really worked.
I am hoping we have a few more of these episodes with the really hilarious moments but also the more serious undertones and shows the character growth in more detail.
