(ANSA) – ROME, APR 30 – Security for he conclave of cardinals to elect a successor to late Pope Francis will be like the security measures ad oped for Francis’s funeral Rome Prefect Lamberto Giannini said Wednesday.
Giannini said it would be hard to predict when the pope’s election will take place after the conclave starts on May 7, bringing tens of thousands of people to Rome once again.
He also said special services may be needed if there is a new pope in two Sundays’ time to give the Angelus blessing in St Peter’s.
“It is an unpredictable event, but we will be ready with all the forces at our disposal,” said Gianni after chairing a public order and safety committee meeting in the Italian capital.
