‘Five people involved in Occhiuto probe’ – report

(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 12 – Five people are said to be involved in an investigation by the Catanzaro Public Prosecutor’s Office in which Calabria’s centre-right Governor Roberto Occhiuto is being investigated for corruption, left-leaning daily newspaper Domani reported Thursday.
The other people under investigation reportedly include Paolo Posteraro, former manager of Amaco, the transport company of the Municipality of Cosenza, a former official of Ferrovie della Calabria regional rail firm and now head of the secretariat of Matilde Siracusano, undersecretary of the Meloni government and partner of the governor.
Another person under investigation is said to be Ernesto Ferraro, another manager close to the governor, now president of Ferrovie della Calabria. The identities of the other two people who are said to be under investigation in the investigation are not known at the moment.
The Catanzaro Prosecutor’s Office is maintaining maximum confidentiality regarding the investigation, avoiding any contact with journalists, whether personal or telephone.
The investigations, according to Domani, have focused on a hypothetical connection between politics and business that investigators do not currently exclude could emerge from the links between Occhiuto, Posteraro – former business partner of the governor – and Ernesto Ferraro, now head of Ferrovie della Calabria, the public transport company owned by the region.
Under the spotlight, the newspaper’s article says, are tests by the anti-money laundering authority of the Bank of Italy, have reportedly detected a suspicious movement dating back to when Occhiuto was a member of parliament and candidate for the leadership of the region.
According to what emerged, Domani specifies, the governor collected a transfer of twenty-one thousand euros in one month of 2020 in which his company at the time ‘Fondazione Patrimonio Artistico Retail’, of which Posteraro is still CEO, allegedly benefited from a guarantee from Medio Credito Centrale to obtain loans from banks.
At the time, Posteraro held a position as administrator of public companies in the municipality administered by Occhiuto’s brother, Mario, now a senator for Forza Italia.
The investigators are therefore also looking at Posteraro’s promotion in Ferrovie della Calabria, together with that of Ernesto Ferraro, who worked in another company of the manager.
