Georgia football OC Mike Bobo gets big pay boost, Glenn Schumann also gets a bump

Georgia football offensive coordinator Mike Bobo has received a big boost in pay after the Bulldogs won their second straight SEC championship and returned to the College Football Playoff.

It comes after Bobo was a finalist for the Broyles Award for nation’s top assistant coach.

Bobo’s total annual pay rose from $1.503 million last year to $2.2 million, effective Jan. 15, according to figures obtained by the Athens Banner-Herald on Thursday, Feb. 26, through an open records request.

Bobo’s salary was set to rise to $1.603 million on July 1 under a contract that ran through the end of the 2026 season. He signed an extension before the 2024 season, but any changes to his contract length were not included Thursday.

Defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann’s total pay also is going up.

He made $2.003 million last year and that is rising to $2.2 million, putting Bobo and Schumann at equal pay. Schumann’s pay was set to rise to $2.103 million on July 1 in a contract that runs through after the 2027 season.

Schumann is entering his fourth season as defensive coordinator and 11th on Kirby Smart’s staff. He served as co-defensive coordinator in 2022 with Will Muschamp.

Bobo is also starting his fourth season in his second stint as offensive coordinator after replacing Todd Monken.

“I think he’s done a great job,” coach Kirby Smart said prior to the Sugar Bowl. “I think he would give a lot of credit to his staff. And what he’s done with our offense, where we’re not a stat-padded, hurry up, take a lot of snaps, get a lot of plays. He doesn’t chase numbers.”

With a first-year starting quarterback in Gunner Stockton, Georgia’s offense averaged 32.1 points per game last season. That ranked sixth in the SEC.

The Bulldogs averaged 182.1 rushing yards per game (fourth in the SEC), up from 124.4 in 2024.

Stockton finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Smart in December lauded Georgia’s touchdown percentage in the red zone, where the Bulldogs ranked fourth in the nation at 77.6%.

Bobo’s salary trails LSU’s Charlie Weis Jr. ($2.5 million) and Indiana offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan ($2.4 million) but is ahead of new South Carolina offensive coordinator Kendal Briles ($2 million).

Muschamp is making $2.7 million a year after being hired as Texas defensive coordinator and new Tennessee defensive coordinator Jim Knowles will make $2 million in 2026.
