After almost half a season, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 has finally figured out what it needs to be.
Many of the early episodes included slapstick humor or ridiculous situations, but the show has finally returned to its original lane: lighthearted takes on family problems, sometimes including the Cooper side of the family.
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 9 offered what could have been one of the most relatable such problems, although the final part of the story spiraled into silliness.

Disagreements About Child-Rearing Are a Popular Family Comedy Trope
Every show featuring a multigenerational family has at least one episode where the grandparents overstep.
All in the Family set the mold for this back in the 1970s, when Archie Bunker secretly baptized his grandson (something Mary and Audrey both tried to do with CeeCee, too, during Young Sheldon Season 7), and shows like Shifting Gears have baked this type of conflict into their premises.
So it wasn’t surprising that Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 9 addressed this issue.
It’s a conflict tailor-made for Audrey and Mandy, and it will probably recur many times over the course of CeeCee’s life.

Audrey’s Idea Was Ridiculous, But Sadly, Some Parents Believe It
Audrey’s idea of biting the child back is… not recommended, to say the least, and I don’t think it was in the 1990s either.
That made it easier to empathize with Georgie and Mandy. They weren’t just fighting to parent as they saw fit — they were actively resisting a ridiculous and potentially harmful method of dealing with a toddler biting people.

Of course, there are parents in the world who think this is a great parenting method — this story didn’t come from nowhere.
But the disagreement — and Audrey’s decision to take matters into her own hands — were far more serious because she wanted to do something that Georgie and Mandy believed was harmful.

This isn’t to say grandparents should contradict what parents want, as long as it isn’t an abusive practice.
All of these stories revolve around the same basic truth: grandparents overstepping like this takes away the right to make parenting decisions from parents, and that’s not okay.
However, when it’s something with less permanent consequences, it’s more easily forgivable, and it’s unsurprising that by the end of this episode, Georgie and Mandy were at odds with everybody.
That’s where most of the humor came from during that crazy radio sequence at the end: one person after another joining the fray until Georgie finally did too.
It was a silly sequence, but it was also hilarious, leaving me with mixed feelings.

I’d Rather Mandy And Audrey Had a Heart-to-Heart
Audrey is often a pain, and she’s never going to stop trying to control everything.
But many of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’s most poignant moments have taken place when Mandy and Audrey have an honest conversation at the end of the episode.

Those conversations often help soften Audrey, too.
She can come across as rigid and judgmental, but when she speaks honestly with Mandy, we learn where she’s really coming from, and it’s a lot more understandable.

This time, the family aired all their dirty laundry on the air.
That didn’t seem to be Audrey’s style.
Maybe I’m misreading her, but I didn’t think she would want all of Texas to know about her family’s business, even if Mandy started it by calling in.
I guess Audrey felt betrayed by Mandy, especially since she thought Mandy was badmouthing her on the radio, but I still found it weird that she was willing to announce publicly that her granddaughter was a biter, never mind that Georgie was only in their lives because he got Mandy pregnant!
While the sequence was funny, it was also uncomfortable, and I found myself agreeing with Jim, who kept begging to be allowed to leave the call.

Of course, it escalated in predictable ways from there, with Mary jumping in to defend herself when Mandy claimed that she spoke to Georgie about how to discipline CeeCee behind Mandy’s back.
I don’t blame Georgie for his decision to jump in at the end, though it’s unfortunate we didn’t get to hear what he was going to say.
Or maybe that was for the best, considering how heated the conversation had gotten. Everyone pretty much said things they couldn’t take back, and it’s annoying that the next episode will probably ignore that it happened.
Everyone Really Needed Lessons In What Two-Year-Olds Are Like (Including the Writers)
I had my doubts that little CeeCee was able to seriously hurt anybody, even if she did throw a block at Mary.

Also, a timeout for a two-year-old doesn’t involve leaving them alone in a room.
Those are nitpicks, though. The episode was funny and relatable despite the silliness.
