Giro: Denz wins 18th stage, Del Toro still pink

(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 29 – German Niko Denz of Red Bull Bora won the 18th stage of the Giro d’Italia Thursday at Cesano Maderno, after a long breakaway first in a small group and then alone.
At the time of his arrival, the group with the pink jersey was more than 10 minutes behind.
Behind the German who finished the stage in 3h12’07”, Mirco Maestri of Polti VisitMalta placed himself at +1’01” who won the sprint to the finish line with the Belgian Edward Planckaert.
For Denz it is the third victory at the Giro and the seventh as a professional.
The German had already won after Rivoli and Cassano Magnago in 2023.
Mexico’s Isaac Del Toro (Uae Team Emirates) arrived about 14 minutes behind the winner, but for him the general classification counts, which still sees him with an advantage of 41” on Ecuador’s Richard Carapaz Richard and 51” on Britain’s Simon Yates. The best Italian, Damiano Caruso, is fifth at 3’06” (ANSA).
