Goodnight, Day

Goodnight, Day is a short film about the messy, painful, stressful, gratifying world of work. The film is made up of several vignettes of workers all woven together and accompanied by recorded phone conversations about jobs, money, and why we do what we do.

Director’s Vision for ‘Goodnight, Day’

This film was an open-ended experience from the beginning. There was a loose idea of what it could be, but once we got into the edit, it evolved into something more personal. Originally, it was an inspirational film about people who work hard at odd hours of the day, but once I started conducting phone interviews with working folks, I found that most people have mixed feelings about work. People even had brutal experiences, yet still found satisfaction in it. So, the film became less inspiring, but I think it’s still hopeful in the end. There’s something messy and painful yet noble about working, and I hope that’s what you think about when it ends.
