Italian Ambassador to Germany visits the city of Wolfsburg

(ANSA) – BERLINO, 22 MAG – The Italian Ambassador to Germany Fabrizio Bucci visited Wolfsburg yesterday, meeting the lively Italian community: Wolfsburg, symbol of Italian emigration to Germany, saw the arrival of the first Italian guest workers (Gastarbeiter) in the early 1960s, many of whom found employment at Volkswagen, making a decisive contribution to the city’s economic development and becoming active players in its social, trade union and institutional life. The first agreement between the Federal Republic of Germany and Italy to send workers dates back to 1955. The ambassador also visited the Volkswagen plants.
‘Wolfsburg is not only the city of the automotive industry, it is an example and model of successful integration. We have Italian communities in many parts of the world, but in few other cities has civic engagement been – and continues to be – so deep and heartfelt. The affection and sense of gratitude that unite Wolfsburg and Italy are truly exemplary. I thank Mayor Weilmann not only for the warm welcome today, but also for the commitment that the city administration demonstrates every day towards the Italian community,’ said Ambassador Bucci.
The visit is also part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the twinning between Wolfsburg and the city of Pesaro, a bond that will be officially celebrated on 19 September 2025.
