Keep your berries fresh and edible as long as possible.
Berries are delicate little things, and they need special care to perform at their best. Excess moisture will accelerate their demise. Berries love a cool, dry environment to stay fresh. That translates to storing them in the refrigerator in an uncovered bowl after removing any moisture around them. A berry bowl is the ideal vehicle for all that TLC.
What is a berry bowl?
It is a decorative bowl with lots of drainage holes that provide berries the optimal atmosphere. Berries need air flow and circulation to prevent spoilage and rot. They are at their happiest when stored in a berry bowl, in the refrigerator, with a paper towel to absorb moisture as a cushion. Do not wash the berries until just before eating them. Washing will add unwanted moisture.
Berry bowls are typically small and deep to prevent berries from sliding out, and they come in various materials like glass, plastic, ceramic, stainless steel, and bamboo. Berry bowls can also be used for cherry tomatoes, grapes, heads of garlic and pretty much any fruit. Below are some we like.
