Three years ago I received a call out of the blue from a friend asking if I was interested in taking home a five week old kitten she had come across at a truck stop. He’d been one out of a small litter, most of which she had given to a shelter. All but two.

My cat at the time had been very old, and we hadn’t been sure of how much longer he’d be with us. I’d also been experiencing some pretty bad anxiety at the time, as well as being between jobs, and admitted that I’d be very grateful for the distraction.

The minute she arrived with him and placed him in my lap I fell in love. I named him “Piccolo” from my favorite character on Dragonball Z.

From day one he’d cry (and still does) if I don’t let him fall asleep on my chest at night, loves a good play fight, and definitely rules the household. If he wants something he’ll definitely let you know!

A wide-eyed tabby kitten lies on a pink blanket with its paws curled toward its chest.

Technically I sleep in his room on his queen-sized bed, haha! I treasure my little man, he’s the first thing I see every morning and I look forward to him greeting me every evening after work with his purrs and little headbutts. He delights me every day with his playful and mischievous little personality. And even now with my anxiety under control I find it hard to sleep if he’s not curled up on a pillow beside me.
