The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s Below Deck Down Under Crossover Is Reality TV Gold

Earlier this year, when The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 6 was filming, news broke that the Bravo hit would crossover with Below Deck Down Under.

Real Housewives have appeared on iterations of Below Deck in the past, but the high seas franchise has never been used for a full-fledged cast trip.

Until now.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 6 Episode 7 was sheer perfection, bringing back Below Deck universe favorites like chef Ben Robinson and Daisy Kelliher as the entire RHOSLC cast arrived to charter their yacht.

From the outset, there was drama, and it was the type of petty drama that helps one of the newer Real Housewives entries thrive.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Understood the Assignment

The stakes are lower, and the bar is even lower because Lisa Barlow, Britani Bateman, Mary Cosby, Heather Gay, Angie Katsanevas, Meredith Marks, Bronwyn Newport, and Whitney Rose are unafraid to look like fools on camera.

It’s excellent for our entertainment, but not so great for the people working on the yacht. There were expletives, arguments, drinks thrown, and everything in between.

However, things escalated a couple of notches on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 6 Episode 8, which aired on Tuesday night on Bravo.

The installment picked up in the immediate aftermath of Heather looking for another “receipts, proof, timeline, screenshots” viral moment by alleging that Lisa was the person leaking the stories about Bronwyn to the press.

We have a similar storyline playing out on The Real Housewives of Orange County with Tamra Judge being pegged as this master manipulator.

Yet, the tone of both shows couldn’t be more different, as RHOC has a darkness that RHOSLC has thankfully avoided.

This week’s episode was reality TV gold, showcasing the topsy-turvy nature of the cast trip and the Below Deck Down Under Season 4 cast’s desperate attempts to avoid the women’s drama, which was a complete shambles.

I’m sorry, but the crossover alone delivered some of the most quotable moments in Bravo history. I’m never going to look at Todd the same after Lisa proclaiming that her “hot friend” made out with Bronwyn’s husband and he passed gas the entire time.

Like, what the actual hell? I had to rewind that scene because I genuinely questioned whether my mind made that up.

But nope. That scene happened, and, of course, we had to have some form of reaction from the ladies.

Mary’s comment about him allegedly kissing another woman was embarrassing enough, but drawing the line at passing gas was absolutely insane.

Mary has a way with words, but Angie’s take on the situation in the confessional, as she played back her version of the conversation with Lisa, was absolutely unhinged.

I always question what’s fact and fiction with Real Housewives and reality TV in general, but surely this was all legit.

I mean, Todd has been growing increasingly frustrated with Bronwyn for continuing to play nice with people like Lisa, who continually disparage their family.

Do we really think that he’s going to want to be associated with the series again after this?

He’s been dragged through the mud on-screen and has been concerned about how the recent wave of allegations against his wife will affect his reputation, given his association with her.

Bronwyn Would Be Wise to Cut These Ladies Loose

Bronwyn doesn’t do herself any favors because she’s always ready to go after Lisa, or anyone else who gets in her way, but I agree that families should be off-limits on these shows.

Watching Captain Jason try not to laugh when Britani asked him for a tour of the boat in the dead of night was crazy, psycho, nuts.

The funnier part of it was that Heather had been vocal about sleeping with Jason and didn’t bat an eyelid at Britani wanting to get with him, too.

Speaking of Heather, she’s really trying to imply that she’s the show’s main character, and it’s starting to aggravate me.

This series, in particular, is the true definition of ensemble. Every one of the ladies brings something unique to the table, and something would feel amiss if one of them were missing.

Even Britani has earned a promotion, even if the Bravo gods don’t want to oblige.

The saddest part of the crossover is that it gave us a taste of Below Deck Down Under Season 4, and we still have a while to wait before it premieres.

You’d think, given that the mashup lasted for multiple episodes, that Bravo would have been able to align the schedules of both shows to give fans the entire crossover now.

Because let’s face it, by the time the Real Housewives charter the yacht when Below Deck Down Under returns, will anyone really want to watch those episodes?

It will be fun to get more of the trip from the yacht staff’s perspective, but overall, it will feel somewhat dated.

The disorderly energy infused through this multi-episode event was off the rails, and it should be mandated from this point on that one of the cast trips from each Real Housewives series be tied to Below Deck in some capacity.

What are your thoughts on the crossover so far? Would you have preferred the broadcast schedule for the two shows to have been a bit more aligned?
