Global Stars and New Nations
This year’s Championships feature a stellar line-up, including multiple world record holders and icons of the sport such as Alexey Molchanov, Petar Klovar, Katarina Sadurska, Zsófia Törőcsik, and Sanda Delija.
Freediving’s rapid global growth is reflected in the number of nations making their debut at the event: Dominican Republic, Grenada, India, Lithuania, Qatar, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and Singapore will all be represented for the first time.
In a strong signal of the sport’s inclusivity, male and female athletes will be almost equally represented — a key step forward in freediving’s continued evolution.
Sport and Spectacle
Now in its 25th year, the AIDA Freediving World Championships stand as the sport’s premier global competition. With more countries participating than ever before, it promises both elite athletic performance and stunning visuals: from athletes surfacing triumphantly with national flags to live-streamed underwater journeys into the deep.
Research and Safety
Freediving has become increasingly professional in recent years, with an expanded focus on safety and science. Following 2023’s pioneering study on athlete health, this year’s event includes new research into safety teams and decompression protocols, particularly focusing on DCI (Decompression Illness) and DCS (Decompression Sickness) in high-pressure environments.
