50 groups ask to be plaintiffs in iconic bear’s slaying

(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 24 – Some 50 animal rights and civic associations have asked to be admitted as civil plaintiffs to a hearing into the killing by an Italian hunter of an iconic bear in Abruzzo two years ago.
The she-bear, Amarena, a symbol of the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise (PNALM), was shot dead at San Benedetto dei Marsi on the night of August 31, 2023.
The hunter, 57-year-old Andrea Leombruni, has been charged with slaying an animal with cruelty and lack of motivation. (ANSA).
