Ryanair delays its full switch to digital boarding passes until November 2025, eliminating paper passes and enhancing passenger convenience via its app.
Ryanair to Fully Transition to Digital Boarding Passes with Winter Schedule Launch in November 2025
Ryanair, Europe’s leading airline, has announced that it will delay the transition to exclusively digital boarding passes until the commencement of its winter schedule on November 3, 2025.
Starting from November 2025, Ryanair travelers will no longer be required to print paper boarding passes. Instead, all passengers will be issued a digital boarding pass via the myRyanair app upon check-in. Currently, nearly 80% of Ryanair’s 200 million annual passengers already opt for digital passes. With this transition, the airline aims to eliminate most airport check-in fees, ensuring that all passengers complete check-in online or through the app to access their digital pass.
By fully adopting electronic boarding passes, Ryanair expects to significantly reduce paper waste, preventing over 300 tonnes of discarded paper annually. This sustainability initiative not only supports environmental conservation efforts but also enhances the overall travel experience. Through the myRyanair app, passengers will gain access to several innovative features designed to improve convenience and minimize disruptions, including:
- Order-to-Seat Service – Enables passengers to place orders directly from their seat and receive priority service.
- Live Flight Status Updates – Get real-time notifications about flight schedules, boarding gates, and terminal changes.
- Operational Alerts – Receive direct updates from Ryanair’s operations center in case of delays or disruptions.
- Alternative Flight Options – Instantly view available alternative flights when facing cancellations or delays.
- Centralized Travel Documents – Store all boarding passes and travel documents in a single, accessible location.
With this digital transformation, Ryanair is not only enhancing passenger convenience but also contributing to a more sustainable and efficient travel experience.
Ryanair CMO Dara Brady said:
“Ryanair is Europe’s No. 1 airline for choice, low fares and customer service. This move to fully electronic boarding passes from November 2025 will allow us to offer an improved and streamlined travel experience using the myRyanair app during our less busy winter schedule. This will be particularly useful for passengers in the event of disruption, as it will allow real-time updates from our Operations Centre directly to passengers’ phones and also offer them alternative flight options, as well as transfers or hotel accommodation options when needed.
As with other ticketing sectors (concerts, sports stadiums, railways etc.), there has been a significant shift to smartphone use and with almost 80% of Ryanair customers already using the myRyanair app, it is time to transition the remaining passengers to digital too, which will enable them to reduce their carbon footprint and have a smoother and improved travel experience from November 2025, as Ryanair continues to grow to 300m passengers over the next decade.”
