The Met Office has issued an urgent 10-hour thunderstorm warning.
Parts of western and central Scotland, along with Northern Ireland, are affected.
Heavy, slow-moving showers are predicted to bring 20- 30 mm of rain within an hour or two.
Flash flooding of homes or businesses, travel delays on road and rail networks, hail, and potential short-term power outages from lightning strikes are likely, the Met Office has warned.
Heavy and thundery showers are expected to develop this afternoon and continue into the early evening.
Whilst not all places in the warning area will see heavy showers, accumulations of 15 to 20 mm are possible in 1 hour and 30 to 40 mm in 3 hours or so where they do occur.
Hail and lightning will be additional hazards.
