(ANSA) – MADRID, 22 MAG – The Italian Embassy in Madrid, with the involvement of the Sistema Paese in Spain (Consulate General of Italy in Madrid, Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid, Italian State School in Madrid, ENIT Office in Madrid, Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Spain), has organised an integrated promotion programme of Abruzzo, a region that boasts intense ties with Spain, also thanks to a community of 13,000 Abruzzese living in the country. The programme, prepared starting with the celebrations in Spain for Republic Day on 2 June, is divided into various economic, cultural and social initiatives, many of them in collaboration with the Abruzzo Region and the association of Abruzzese in Spain ‘Casa Abruzzo’, the embassy informs in a note.
Specific events will be devoted to Abruzzo entrepreneurship in its various components – wine and food, high technology, automotive, tourism – to promote its internationalisation towards Spain, the fourth largest export market for Abruzzo. The aim will also be to make Spanish operators aware of investment opportunities in the region.
Cultural initiatives will focus on the study of the figures of some great artists to whom Abruzzo was born, such as, Gabriele D’Annunzio and Francesco Paolo Tosti. An exhibition dedicated to the dynasty of painters and sculptors Cascella will also be organised at the Italian Institute of Culture in Madrid (IICM), retracing 150 years of art and innovation, from the progenitor Basilio, through Pietro and Tommaso to the living Matteo.
Abruzzo will be the protagonist of a film festival that will feature the film “Un mondo a parte” by Riccardo Milani, with Antonio Albanese; the animation film “Ricardito, lo squalo?” by Marco Pollini and the short film “Il mare di Gabriele” by Francisco José Fernandez.
The reception on 2 June in the embassy gardens, dedicated to Abruzzo, will be an opportunity to promote Abruzzo’s food and wine, in its four provincial specificities, and to exhibit to the public an aluminium sculpture by Pietro Cascella (untitled, 1961), as a prelude to the exhibition that will open in September.
The programme begins on 29 May with a meeting at the IICM with Donatella Di Pietrantonio in the ‘Incontri d’autore’ cycle. On 31 May, again at the IICM, there will be a concert tracing the history of the association of poetry and music between Tosti and D’Annunzio. On 2 June, a press conference is scheduled at the Italian Consulate General and the celebration of Republic Day at the Embassy. On 3 June, the film ‘Un mondo a parte’ will be screened at the IICM, and on 4 June, a conference on D’Annunzio by Giordano Bruno Guerri. From 25 September to 17 January 2026, the exhibition ‘Cascella. Beyond Time’. Between 6 and 8 October, B2B business meetings at the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Spain. The programme will continue in October with academic meetings on restoration and, in November, with an Abruzzi-Spanish food and wine dialogue as part of the Italian Cuisine Week.
