(ANSA) – ROME, AUG 11 – Italy’s ‘acquired’ inflation rate for 2025 is 1.7%, Istat said Monday.
In July 2025, the national consumer price index (NIC), excluding tobacco, increased by 0.4% monthly and 1.7% year-on-year (as in the previous month), confirming the preliminary estimate.
In its announcement, Istat explained that inflation is stable due to opposing price dynamics across various aggregates.
Among goods, the year-on-year decline in energy prices intensified (-3.4% from -2.1% in June) and food prices accelerated (+3.7% from +3.3%).
In the services sector, tensions were observed in the prices of transport-related services (+3.3% from +2.9%) and miscellaneous services (+2.2% from +1.6%), while those of recreational, cultural, and personal care services decelerated (+2.7% from +3.2%).
The stable annual rate of change of the general index, explains the Institute of Statistics, reflects differing trends in the various aggregates: prices of unprocessed food (from +4.2% to +5.1%) and processed food (from +2.7% to +2.8%) accelerated; prices of regulated energy goods decelerated (from +22.6% to +17.1%), and the decline in non-regulated energy goods worsened (from -4.2% to -5.2%).
In July, core inflation, excluding energy and unprocessed food, remained unchanged (at +2.0%); inflation excluding energy alone accelerated slightly (from +2.1% to +2.2%).
Price growth moderated for both goods (from +0.9% to +0.8%) and services (from +2.7% to +2.6%). The inflation gap between the services and goods sectors remains unchanged at +1.8 percentage points.
The positive quarterly change in the general index, Istat explains, is mainly due to increases in the prices of unregulated (+2.2%) and regulated (+1.2%) energy products, transport-related services (+0.9%), miscellaneous services (+0.6%), processed food products, and recreational, cultural, and personal care services (both +0.3%).
However, the prices of unprocessed food products (-0.6%) and durable goods (-0.3%) decreased on a monthly basis.
The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) for July 2025 recorded a change of -1.0% month-on-month, due to the summer sales that the NIC does not take into account, and a +1.7% year-on-year change (from +1.8% the previous month), confirming the preliminary estimate.
The national consumer price index for blue- and white-collar workers’ households (Foi), excluding tobacco, recorded a quarterly change of +0.4% and a trend change of +1.5%. (ANSA).
