The Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC), a prominent figure in the air travel industry bridging airlines, agencies, and corporate buyers, has unveiled its latest resource: best practices for New Distribution Capability (NDC).
These guidelines were crafted by the NDC Advancement Working Group, a collaboration of airlines, global distribution systems (GDS), travel tech providers, travel agencies, consolidators, and travel management companies (TMC). Formed in October 2023, the group has invested over 50 hours addressing key challenges and formulating solutions to support seamless NDC adoption.
“NDC adoption is vital for the travel industry to meet the evolving needs and expectations of travelers,” said Paige Blunt, senior manager of Direct Connect and ONE Order at ARC. “By embracing the NDC best practices, airlines, agencies and travel technology providers can take advantage of more personalized offers, improve efficiency and foster stronger partnerships.”
The NDC best practices provide tailored guidance for specific audiences, complementing the overarching recommendations where applicable. These audiences include commercial airlines, travel agencies (such as OTAs and TMCs), and travel technology providers like aggregators, GDS platforms, online booking tools, and other related organizations.
“ARC has been visionary in their facilitation and creation of the best practices document. Their process was highly collaborative, taking into consideration points of view from airlines, aggregators and agencies alike with a focus on key challenges where a best practice could really be of benefit in modern retailing,” said Tara Kimberley, vice president of air distribution Americas at Flight Centre Travel Group.
