All must reckon with Ramelli murder says Meloni

(ANSA) – ROME, APR 28 – All must reckon with the case of Sergio Ramelli, a neoFascist youth militant murdered by leftist activists in Milan 50 years ago to whom the government dedicated a postage stamp recently, Premier Giorgia Meloni said Monday.
Ramelli, a member of the Fronte della Gioventù (Youth Front), the youth wing of the neoFascist Italian Social Movement (MSI), was brutally beaten by members of Avanguardia Operaia (Workers Vanguard) on March 13, 1975, and died of his wounds on April 29 that year a few days before turning 19.
“A month and a half ago my government decided to dedicate a stamp to the memory of Sergio Ramelli, for us a gesture that is much more than symbolic: it means affirming that his story and his death are a piece of Italian history that everyone on the right and left must deal with”, Meloni’s said in a video message sent for a commemorative event organized at Palazzo Lombardia, the seat of the Lombardy regional government, in his memory.
“Today that memory is starting to be shared more, in an attempt to heal a deep wound that must unite all the innocent victims of hatred and political violence” she added.
A plaque was also recently unveiled at Ramelli’s old school in Milan, despite protests by leftwing students. (ANSA).
