Alstom, a global pioneer in innovative and sustainable transportation solutions, is thrilled to announce the groundbreaking launch of the Riyadh Metro—a visionary project that will revolutionize urban mobility in Saudi Arabia’s capital. Spanning an impressive 176 kilometers across six dynamic metro lines, 85 cutting-edge stations, and seven state-of-the-art depots, the Riyadh Metro sets an extraordinary global standard for urban transit, positioning Riyadh as a beacon of future-ready cities.

For Riyadh, the metro is more than just an advanced public transportation network. As a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious vision for urban renewal, the Riyadh Metro will reduce reliance on private vehicles, helping cut fuel consumption by approximately 1 million gallons annually. The environmental impact is equally remarkable, with the metro expected to slash greenhouse gas emissions by up to 3,105 tons of VOCs, 217 tons of PM, 3,990 tons of NOx, and a staggering 12.5 million tons of CO2 each year.

The metro will be launched in phases, beginning with the Yellow Line (Line 4) and the Purple Line (Line 6) on December 15th, followed by the Orange Line (Line 3) on January 5th. This strategic phased rollout will ensure a seamless integration of the metro system into Riyadh’s daily rhythm, unlocking new opportunities for efficient and accessible transportation.

Alstom’s contribution to the Riyadh Metro is monumental, delivering 47 cutting-edge Innovia metro trains for the Orange Line and 69 advanced Metropolis trains for the Yellow, Green, and Purple lines. Custom-designed to meet Riyadh’s specific needs, these trains offer exceptional reliability, unparalleled performance, and world-class efficiency. The metro’s operations are powered by Alstom’s state-of-the-art Urbalis CBTC signaling system, ensuring safe, precise, and real-time control across the entire network. Additionally, Alstom’s groundbreaking HESOP regenerative braking technology recovers energy during braking, dramatically reducing operational costs and power consumption while boosting sustainability.
