Alstom Unveils Sustainable Rail Technology at CIIE 2024 from November 5-10 Marking Six Decades of China-France Cooperation

Alstom is proudly participating in the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, held from November 5 to November 10. At this premier global platform, Alstom is showcasing a range of cutting-edge rail transit technologies and sustainable solutions. The display emphasizes the company’s commitment to green innovation, low-carbon advancements, and smart, sustainable rail development.

This year holds special significance as it commemorates the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France, alongside Alstom’s 66-year legacy in China’s rail industry. Alstom has been a key player in fostering cooperation and friendship between the two nations since its first entry into China in 1958. This year’s CIIE not only marks Alstom’s debut at the event but also honors France as the guest country.

Alstom’s exhibition theme, “Glorious 60 Years, Carrying Forward the Future,” offers an engaging presentation of the company’s extensive integration into China’s rail transit industry. Through vivid illustrations and informative displays, Alstom shares milestones of its journey and highlights its lasting impact on China’s rail sector. The exhibit celebrates Alstom’s contributions to advancing sustainable, forward-thinking transportation solutions while strengthening the bond between China and France.

Ming Geng, Managing Director of Alstom China, stated, “Alstom views CIIE as a cornerstone opportunity to expand our network in China, deepen our market presence, and extend our global reach. By driving development through innovation, we aim to contribute to a greener, smarter, low-carbon, and sustainable future for the Chinese rail transit industry.”

At the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE), Alstom showcases an array of innovative products and solutions focused on advancing green, intelligent, and efficient urban mobility. Key technologies on display include the intelligent train diagnostic system for condition-based and predictive maintenance, the Innovia monorail, the Innovia automated people mover (APM), and the Rubber-Tyre Rapid Transit System (RRT). These technologies underscore Alstom’s leadership in sustainable transportation, emphasizing its commitment to developing eco-friendly and smart solutions.

A centerpiece of the exhibit is the intelligent train diagnostic system, deployed in Shanghai’s Line 12 fleet and presented through an interactive “Video + Sand Table” model. This setup illustrates the system’s operational process, showcasing real-time monitoring and data analytics to optimize maintenance. By offering preventive maintenance capabilities, this system enhances efficiency, reduces faults, and cuts maintenance costs. The Innovia monorail, designed for fast-growing urban areas, provides a low-cost, energy-efficient transportation option with reduced construction timelines. The Innovia APM offers an ideal short-distance transport solution, efficiently linking high-density areas, such as city centers and airports. The RRT system, featuring lightweight design and onboard energy storage, meets urban transit needs while minimizing environmental impact. With energy-saving and intelligent technology, it provides an effective “last mile” solution for urban travelers.

During CIIE, Alstom’s booth attracted numerous visits from Chinese government representatives from various ministries, provinces, and cities, as well as delegations from the French embassy and other business sectors. These meetings fostered discussions on future cooperation in the rail transit industry, further strengthening China-France collaboration in this field. The expo provided a platform for Alstom to explore deeper partnerships with prominent figures and potential partners.

With over 60 years of experience in China, Alstom is committed to its long-term growth in China’s rail industry, supporting a greener, smarter, and low-carbon future. Alstom’s portfolio in China spans across a complete range of rolling stock—including high-speed trains, metro cars, and trams—as well as critical components, such as traction systems and signaling solutions. Alstom has established 11 joint ventures in China and employs nearly 10,000 people. These partnerships have delivered over 6,000 railway passenger cars, 1,530 electric locomotives, and extensive metro, monorail, and tram solutions, both domestically and internationally.

Alstom’s service offerings in China include maintenance, modernization, and extensive support for urban mass transit, currently covering over 4,100 metro cars under maintenance contracts. As a leading signaling provider to China’s high-speed rail network, Alstom’s systems are integral to over 110 urban transit lines, reinforcing its role in China’s ongoing rail development.
