(ANSA) – MADRID, 19 SET – Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi received yesterday at the Residence, in the evocative setting of the Amboage Palace, a representation of the top management of the Spanish and Andorran international judicial cooperation system, the embassy informs in a note.
The representation was composed of the director of the International Relations Service of the Consejo General del Poder Judicial (Cgpj), Luis de Arcos Perez; María Felisa Herrero Pinilla, section head of the International Relations Service of the Cgpj; Juan Manuel Fernández Martínez, president of the Audiencia Nacional; Jesús Alonso Cristóbal, section president and head of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Audiencia Nacional; Félix Alfonso Guevara Marcos, president of the Criminal Section of the Audiencia Nacional, by María Jesús Fraile Martin, government secretary of the Audiencia Nacional, by Alejandro Luzón Cánovas, chief prosecutor of the Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime, by Manuela Francisca Fernández Prado, president of the Appeals Section of the Audiencia Nacional, and by Ramón Camp Batalla Ramon, member secretary of the Superior Council of Justice of Andorra.
Accompanied by, among others, Italy’s consul general in Madrid, Spartaco Caldararo, Italian magistrate liaison in Spain, Clara Ciofetti, Guardia di Finanza expert, Gen. B. Salvatore Russo, and Security expert, Lt. Col. Francesco Manna, Ambassador Bucicno Grimaldi thanked the magistrates present for their fundamental contribution to the excellent state of judicial cooperation between Italy and Spain and Andorra.
The ambassador also recalled the legacy of so many heroes of the Italian anti-mafia, starting with Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, among the first to realize the importance of international cooperation, “follow the money” and confiscation of assets as the most effective tools to fight mafias. Teachings these, remarked Ambassador Buccino Grimaldi, that have been implemented by the Italian Parliament with the enactment over the years of increasingly stringent laws including the so-called “hard prison” for mafiosi and the famous “Special Anti-Mafia Law” that allows for faster confiscation of illicitly accumulated property and that is now observed and imitated worldwide.
In the context of a legislative and judicial evolution that also sees an important supporting role of the Farnesina with the launch, since a few years ago, of the so-called “legal diplomacy,” given the close interconnection of the mafias of the different countries in the management of international illicit trafficking, the event hosted in the Residence allowed a reflection and analysis of potential operational sequels on a topic of great civil relevance: the allocation for social purposes of property confiscated from criminal organizations, transforming what is the fruit of illegality into a resource for the community, as a concrete opportunity to promote legality, inclusion and development in the most affected territories.
